FULL-DAY TOUR
For your rainbow mountain day trip, we will pick you up at 4:00 am for a scenic 2-hour drive to the town of Cusipata, where you will enjoy a delicious breakfast (included). Afterward, we’ll drive another hour uphill to Llacto, the starting point of the hike at 4,600 meters (15,100 feet) above sea level.
The hike to Rainbow Mountain is stunning yet challenging due to the high altitude, reaching 5,000 meters (16,400 feet). For reference, this is almost the same elevation as Everest’s base camp! Horses are available for rent along the trail if needed.
Your experienced Authentic Trips Peru guide will lead you on the approximately 2.5-hour hike to the viewpoint, offering breathtaking views of Andean landscapes, with llamas and alpacas along the way. Along the trail, your guide will share fascinating insights about the area’s history, topography, and the mineral-rich soil responsible for the vibrant colors of Rainbow Mountain.
For those wanting to extend the adventure, there’s an option to visit the nearby Red Valley, just a 30-minute hike away. This surreal landscape features iron-rich red soil that beautifully contrasts with lush greenery. (Additional entrance fee in Peruvian Soles required.)
After the hike, we’ll head back to Cusipata for a delicious lunch (included). Following lunch, your guide will transport you back to your hotel in Cusco. Get ready to capture Instagram-worthy photos and create unforgettable memories of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
